Badge Printer Automatically Powers Off or Enters Sleep Mode

This guide will walk through modifying the ALICE Kiosk's power settings to disable the USB suspend feature and how to disable the Brother QL-810W's Auto Power Off feature.

Disabling Windows USB Suspend Power Settings

  1. On the ALICE Kiosk PC, navigate to the Control Panel in Windows and select Power Options. 
  2. Select Change Plan Settings by the currently active power plan.
  3. In the new window, select Change Advanced Power Settings
  4. Scroll down to "USB Settings" in the pop-up window and expand the options.
  5. Expand the "USB select suspend setting" and change the "Setting" field to Disabled.
  6. Click Apply to save the new settings.

  7. For Brother QL-810W Printers, run the P-Touch Driver, which can be downloaded from here.
  8. Relaunch the ALICE Directory. Occasionally monitor and test the badge printer over the next 24 hours to verify the new settings.

Disabling the Printer Auto Power Off Settings (Brother QL-810W Badge Printer-only)

  1. Open Brother's Printer Setting Tool on the ALICE Kiosk PC.
  2.  In the "Printer" section, verify that the Brother QL-810W printer has been selected. 
  3. Click Device Settings

  4. Under the Basic tab, use the drop-down menus to... 
    • Uncheck "Disable these settings"
    • Set "Auto Power" On to On.
    • Set the "Auto Power Off AC/DC" setting to None.
    • Change the Auto Power Off Li-ion" setting to None
  5. Click Apply.

  6. Run the Brother P-Touch Driver, which can be downloaded here.
  7. Relaunch the ALICE Directory. Occasionally check the status of the badge printer over the next two hours to verify the new settings.
