How to Format Phone Numbers and SIP Extensions for the "Primary Number/Address" Field

This article covers how to populate the Primary Number / Address Field based on the type of call and the communication server being used.

When populating the Employees, "Primary Number/Address" field on the ALICE Portal, ensure the correct syntax is used for each communication scenario.

ALICE SIP Server

Phone Numbers

  1. Set the "Call Type" to Audio.
  2. For the "Primary Number/Address" field, use the following format: ###-###-####

Video Calls Using the ALICE Client

  1. Set the "Call Type" to Video.
  2. For the "Primary Number/Address" field, use the following format and only utilize lowercase letters: sip:####@na.sip##.alicereceptionist.com

Split Call to ALICE Client and Phone Number

A Split Call allows employees to view the visitor using the ALICE Client, but still use their phone to communicate with them.  

  1. Set the "Call Type" to Split Call.
  2. For the "Primary Number/Address" field, input the ARC's SIP Extension using the following format and only utilize lowercase letters:
    1. sip:####@na.sip##.alicereceptionist.com
  3. For the "Secondary Number/Address" field, use the following format: ###-###-####

Third-Party Softphone

  1. Change the "Call Type" to Video.
  2. For the "Primary Number/Address" field, use the following format and only utilize lowercase letters: bria_sip:####@na.sip##.alicereceptionist.com

Audio Calls to Extensions

  1. Set the Call Type to Audio
  2. Due to the differences in phone systems, various extension formats may need to be tried.
    1.  For the "Primary Number/Address" field, include the extension  and phone system's IP: bria_sip:####@###.###.###.###

    2. For the "Primary Number/Address" field, just populate the extension: ####

Cisco CUCM

The Cisco Extension for the ARD must be set to "Advanced."

  1. Set the "Call Type" to Audio.
  2. For the "Primary Number/Address" field, use the following format and only utilize lowercase letters:  
    1. Extension @ Phone System IP: bria_sip:####@"CUCMServerName
