ADA Access and Assistance Services Implementation Guide
This article walks through ADA access features available for ALICE Receptionist kiosks.
Increasing accessibility to your office can be done simply by using ALICE’s features, which can help accommodate those with hearing and vision impairments and those who require additional assistance for wheelchair access.
Wheelchair Access Assistance
For kiosks whose full displays are not wheelchair accessible, an assistance button can be placed for those who cannot reach the upper section of the display to call for assistance.
This button is enabled in the Directory Tab in the ALICE Portal. Assign the button to call the assistance contact or ring the group. Once contacted, the staff can assist the guest as needed.
Hearing Impaired Assistance
Displaying Closed Captions
ALICE's AI Receptionist, by default, displays closed captions to communicate your processes and procedures to visitors with hearing impairments. If this feature is not currently enabled on your ALICE Directory, you may need to update your ALICE Directory or Language pack. Contact the ALICE Support team for additional assistance.
Accommodating Sign Language Services
If your staff has team members designated for sign language assistance on-site or remotely, a contact card or Receptionist button can be configured to connect a video call directly to an individual or group.
TTY For 911 Calls
In emergencies, TTY for 911 calls can be made available on the ALICE system. This will connect the ALICE user to a 911 operator who can communicate with the visitor using a virtual keyboard on the system.
TTY for 911 calls requires additional services and fees. Please get in touch with your ALICE representative for more details and activation.
Visually Impaired Assistance
Place the ALICE Kiosk close to your main entrance, or use a guidance path that directs visitors to the kiosk.
Configure a large, high-contrast ADA Access button for easy identification. This button is enabled in the Directory Tab in the ALICE Portal. Assign the button to call the assistance contact or ring the group. Once contacted, the staff can assist the guest as needed.
Enable motion detection on your ALICE kiosk. In the ALICE greeting message, provide instructions noting the high-contrast ADA Access button to be used for further assistance.
