ALICE Greeting Troubleshooting Guide

This article provides guidance on troubleshooting common motion detection issues.

ALICE Doesn't Greet Guests

Verify that "Enable Motion Detection" is enabled in the ALICE Configuration tool.
Increase the sensitivity of motion detection.
  • 60% sensitivity is recommended. However, every lobby is different. Increase the sensitivity level and test the settings.

ALICE Greets Too Frequently

Enable face detection, which will greet people as they approach and look toward the system.

Decrease the sensitivity of motion detection and test the settings.

Motion Detection Red Boxes

Narrow the field which ALICE checks for motion.
  • In the ALICE configuration's Advanced Motion settings, use the "Set Region" option to narrow down the areas where ALICE detects motion. Use the box tool to define where ALICE should look for motion. After defining a new region, the sensitivity settings may need to be adjusted.
    • It is recommended to use the region to remove the following:
      • Unrelated visitor traffic to the sides of the ALICE system.
      • Windows or glass doors where outside activity may trigger motion detection.
  • For more about the Set Region feature, refer to the ALICE Directory Motion settings documentation.

ALICE Greeting Empty Lobby

Check the environment for changes in lighting or moving display signage as motion.
  • The following can cause ALICE Receptionist to falsely detect motion:
    • Lights that automatically power on and off during operating hours.
    • TVs displaying content or displaying video.
    • Changes in lighting from people, objects, or vehicles passing by windows and glass doors.

Increase the "Autofocus Compensation Delay" to 3-5 seconds to allow the camera to refocus.

  • Cameras attempting to refocus or adjust their exposure after turning on may be interpreted as motion. In the ALICE Configuration's Advanced Motion settings,
